Foods That Are High Risk of Causing Cysticercosis


1.Salad

Vegetable is one of means transporting larval parasites to the body. Aquatic vegetables like parsley,spinach,watercress… are all infected with parasites such as roundworm, hookworms, liver fluke. It is worth worrying to find that 97% of samples of vegetables sold in the market have parasitic infection, especially vegetables that are not hygienic due to being watered by dirty water. This is the germ of gastrointestinal diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, worm disease ... The most popular ones are hookworms, whipworms, pinworms, roundworms, liver fluke.

2. Fresh seafood

Both fresh and salt water fishes are likely to contain parasite larvae. Freshwater fishes such as catfish, snakehead, eel, snail…contain a lot of parasitic worms. Meanwhile, crabs, snails, shrimp contain the lung fluke larvae.

Marine fishes all contain nematode larvae, particularly in popular sea foods such as cuttlefish, mackerel, sardines, salmon ... This type of parasite larvae can cause many symptoms like headaches, vomiting, even lead to intestinal obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease. 

3.Undercooked meats

Undercooked meat is the source of the beef tapeworm, an extremely dangerous parasite. In addition, the liver fluke in herbivores such as cattle, goats, sheep... can cause diseases in humans. The prevalence of liver fluke infection in cattle is from 31% to 98%. Liver fluke larvae can move outside the liver and small worms can move to the joints, brain, colon, subcutaneous causing diseases that are difficult to diagnose. Hence, eating much raw meats is a dangerous habit to catch diseases that many people get.

4.Watercress

Watercress is high risk of helminth infection because it can be grown in polluted water. There have been many cases detecting a flock of parasitic worms in the body of watercress. Therefore, restrict to eat this kind of vegetables. 

5.Fish salad

People who have a habit of eating raw fishes will be at risk for liver fluke disease. It is tested that there are still up to 95%of aliveworm larvae found in processed fishes. Fish salad is processed in the form of small fish slices mixed with different spices,this is a bridge to bring worms to our body.
