Compare the design of Xperia Z5 and iPhone 6S

Apple and Sony are the two manufacturers always highly appreciated by designs as well as their flagships. Their products are not only a pure smartphone, but also a jewel. For Japanese manufacturers, from the Xperia Z, Z1, Z2 to Z3+ they are quite conservative with the concept “if beautiful then there is no need to change” and Apple seems to think so, too. However, with the advert of Xperia Z5 and iPhone 6S, it looks like that each company has their own improvements in their products.

This year, Xperia Z5 has changed the design language, but if just look-over, we will hardly recognize the difference of Z5 with its predecessors. The question is if Sony uses Monolithic as a “disguised” name for OmniBalance? The answer is no. Monolithic is a long-standing design language and quite popular in Sony’s high-ranking TV lines. If OmniBalance enhances symmetry and harmony of the whole, which means that when holding horizontally or vertically we can still use easily and in which still exists softness, then Monolithic is not. The symmetry is broken when the power button is flattened rather than circular and not in the very middle. Inspired by the monolithic sturdy, Z5 is strong, solid, especially in the virile corners. Even when not in use, it still exudes a mysterious beauty as a jewel that we only want to look at forever.

iPhone 6S is actually a version copied from iPhone 6 (unchanged design), the only improvement in the design stays in the constituent material. 7000 series aluminum brings the certainty, especially when iPhone encountered a lot of criticism about the state vulnerable to bend in the last year. At first sight, yellow or rose iPhone 6S is quite feminine, 4 soft and curved corners, circular home button, 2.5D curved screen, but if you look closely, this device still has its own beauty, still exudes youthfulness and fashion for users.

However, the design of a smartphone does not stop at the appearance, practical experiences when using bring many meanings. Apple cares about the user experience, the softness of the machine makes users hold and manipulate very comfortably. The physical buttons are easy, good bounce, but the apple logo is fast dirty. As for Xperia Z5, the first thing is that users easily feel pain or uncomfortable if holding longer due to angular and firm design. The physical keys on Z5 arrange unreasonably except the power key. Volume and snapshot keys easily cause users to inadvertently mistake when handling.

Generally, iPhone 6S bring excellent user experiences of a high-grade device reflected by good manipulation, rugged and durable materials. Xperia Z5 exudes seductive beauty but experience when using is not very good and there are still a certain number of restrictions. No beauty or design is perfect or absolute. Both Apple and Sony are the smartphone manufacturers constantly creating and providing users with their superior products. And you, which do you prefer?
