Cloud Computing – Challenges and Opportunities

Opportunities for the development of cloud computing

Recently researches show that the total amount of data that has been transmitted in the internet is surprisingly huge. In 2020, the amount of data will likely increase about 20 times.

The development of cloud computing is one of the elements that promote the development of the economy. Hence, the chances for cloud computing to be used widely are always available.

Nowadays, people use mobile phone not only for calling and sending messages, but also for their jobs. Many statistics show that more than 60% of the data amount transfers come from mobile devices. And this rate will definitely increase in the future.

In the recent studies, the monthly using of data in mobile devices will probably increase about 8 times in the next two year. In 2018, the total amount of data transfers in the internet will tend to up to 110 Exabytes. This is a big chance for cloud computing to take a bigger market share in the near future.

Difficulty and challenges for the development of cloud computing

In order to use the “cloud”, the essential condition is that you need to have the connection to the internet. And it is obviously that the difficulties relate to the internet is definitely the challenges for the cloud computing to develop. And technology barriers are the most common issues of cloud computing’s development.

The limitation of WLAN and scalability of WAN are the factors causing barriers to the development of cloud data system. For WLAN, the limitation is the security and the small transferring scope. If you want to make larger extent, you must add more equipment, this is quite expensive. However, the transferring speed of WLAN is much slower than the speed of optical fiber.

WAN has larger extension if compared with WLAN. This is a collection of LAN, MAN through multiple connection methods. However WAN has low bandwidth networks. It can easily be disconnected. WAN is only suitable for small operations such as email, web ... while cloud data requires the stability and high speed.

There are some other restrictions such as investment costs of infrastructure, complex connection system, management issues and handling with internet problems.

Of course, every application has its pros and cons. Cloud computing is not the exception. Like many recently stored methods, cloud system has a lot of challenges which prevent it from developing and widening. But in the other hand, cloud computing has special advantages that exactly suitable with the need for development of the current economy. So in the long term, cloud computing will surely come nearer to the status of being worldwide used by every firms in the world.
