A smartphone has long become an indispensable item for many people. Thanks to it, users can not only listen to, call, text but also can access the Internet, play games, listen to music, read books, stories, movies, photography... The useful integration is also the main reason why people can be absorbed in smartphones for hours without knowing bored. Every time sitting on the bus, standing at a street corner waiting for someone, at home, at a walk... people still have the habit of plugging into their phone with a close distance without even realizing, and this is the cause of the eye disease.


Talking about the harmful effects of light due to the smartphone screen, some studies worldwide have shown that, using the phone for too long with the proximity was the reason causing aging eyes, increase the likelihood cataracts, causing the eye refractive errors such as myopia. Besides, using the phone at night in the dark environment causes a lot of harm because blue light attracts the high attention of our eyes, easily leading to fatigue, headache, eye pain and eventually increase the risk of myopia.

Basically, the light of the phone screen is harmful like a computer or television monitors. If used with a long and close range, it is likely to increase the risk of macular degeneration, myopia, or eyestrain, amblyopia... In the US, there has already a specific statistic showing that due to using smartphone, people were getting more aging macula, especially the young people. Aging macula is actually aging eye diseases, making young people with visual impairment and premature aging.

In times of technological development, the ability of the eye diseases is increasing. If previously only those who followed the academic career easily caught myopia, now the number has expanded a lot, including those who regularly use television, computer, touch devices such as phones, iPad and even gaming screens, karaoke... In particular, the most popular is still 2 equipments: computer and telephone.

Of course, people generally use computers more for a longer time, especially working adults. However, when using the phone, they often look too closely but do not mind. We often talk about the harmful effects of computer or television so perhaps, everyone will ignore the harmful effects of the phone screen and think it is safe.

A safe distance when using the smartphone is at least 40cm. Everyone has a different vision capability so the distance can be adjusted, but the best is about 30-40cm. There are also many people saying that their eyes are getting worse by using smartphone too much, but maybe that is just one of many factors in addition to the phone because we also have many other causes related to living conditions, nutrition...
